Education Development, Quality and Research

NHS West Midlands invests over £500m in education and training every year across medical and non-medical education. Investment is made on programmes of education to train new healthcare professionals and also to drive up clinical standards and improve clinical leadership via continuous personal and professional development.

All healthcare staff make a huge personal investment and commitment to patients. We need to match this commitment by supporting their education and training so that they develop the skills and confidence to deliver care in new ways in the future.

As part of this investment it is important that we monitor the quality of the education and training that is taking place and also seek to explore where education is being enhanced and share this as best practice in order to raise the standards of education.

This is achieved through a variety of quality monitoring and enhancement frameworks. Key frameworks utilised within NHS West Midlands include Education Commissioning for Quality (ECQ) covering non-medical education and training and the Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Quality Framework.
